Shan Mu root baskets

About the Shan Mu Baskets:

The Shan Mu tree grows in the high mountain regions of China. Craftsmen there harvest the trunks with the roots intact, naturally forming the handles of the baskets. Each tree is a unique expression of nature therefore, each basket is also unique. The colors and shapes will vary. Each of our pieces is kiln dried and tested for an appropriate moisture content to minimize cracking. Then several coats of finish are applied. No further care is required - just dust periodically with a natural orange or lemon oil.

Each basket has been properly cured before

arriving at its destination in the United States.

All possible measures are taken to prevent the baskets

from developing any large, structural cracks. Slight cracks may develop as the baskets become acclimated and as the humidity level fluctuates. Some of the baskets may have natural pockets, voids or holes. These are not defects, they add to the character of each basket!
