Selenite is formed when the sea water is isolated and evaporates, leaving the salts to form this unique variety of gypsum.

The name comes from the Greek [selenites], meaning "moon stone".

Ours are from Morocco, Selenite is also found in Utah.

Are the Selenite rock candle holders a natural color?

Yes, Selenite comes in orange or white, naturally.

What is a geode?

A geode is a hollow rock (usually spherical) with crystals lining the inside wall.

The difference between a geode and a nodule is that a geode has a hollow cavity, and a nodule is solid

The term geode is derived from the Greek word Geoides which means "earthlike."

Are all the agate colors natural?

No,  the pink, blue, purple and teal are not natural, they are dyed.  The others are natural.

Where are the agate rock candles from?

Tell me about negative ions.

They are oxygen atoms with an extra electron, which can help you feel better. Remember that feeling you had near a waterfall, or high in the mountains? Those are two places where thousands of negative ions occur, which create an affect on human biochemistry.

In nature negative ions are created by means of wind, sunlight, surf, waterfalls and rainstorms. Generally, a negative ion is an electronically charged molecule made up of oxygen. A positive ion in the air is a molecule that has lost its electrons through process of air pollution. In fresh country air we find up to 4000 negative ions per cubic centimeter - the size of a sugar cube. Near strong surf or close to a waterfall up to 10.000 negative ions can be found, however the number of negative ions in major capital cities at rush hour does not even reach 100.

The impact of negative ions is powerful. Originally, it was found to speed recovery in burn or asthma patients, but was later discovered to affect serotonin levels in the bloodstream, stabilize alpha rhythms and to positively impact our reactions to sensory stimuli. The greater level of alertness can translate into improved learning, improved well being and enhanced human performance.

A series of scientific studies show that salt crystal lamps can increase the negative ion count by up to 300%.

What is Speleotherapy?

Speleotherapy is essentially the treatment of respiratory diseases using the air found in underground caves. Such air is typically rich in natural salt microns and ions, which have been found quite effective in reducing asthma, allergies, and other breathing problems, in addition to soothing irritated skin and restoring ionic balance within the body.

Speleotherapy is most popular in former Soviet bloc areas -- such as East Germany, Romania, Armenia, and the Ukraine -- for several reasons. Initially, Eastern European health practitioners and medical clinics did not have the financial resources for purchasing expensive Western pharmaceuticals, and so they turned to more traditional and lower-cost methods, including speleotherapy. The mountainous regions of Europe and Asia are well-known as having the best mines for ancient salt, as well as being the primary sources for crystal salts. These natural crystals -- formed countless millennia ago -- are also handcrafted into beautiful salt lamps that give off healthy negative ions, which have unique healing properties.

Why should I use natural toothpaste?

If you are brushing your teeth with toothpaste that has triclosan in it, and you are rinsing with tap water that has chlorine in it, you are getting a little chemical reaction right in your mouth.

Some new information has come from Virginia Tech. Researchers that have found that the chemical triclosan, which is found in a lot of antimicrobial soaps and toothpaste products, can react with chlorine in the tap water. Guess what you get? (This is the horrifying part.) Chloroform. This is a toxic chemical that can give you cancer. In the old movies, you might have seen someone give a person chloroform to knock them unconscious. If you breathe enough chloroform, you will die.

If you are brushing your teeth with toothpaste that has triclosan in it, and you are rinsing with tap water that has chlorine in it, you are getting a little chemical reaction right in your mouth. What a wonderful gift from the toothpaste manufacturers. That's not to mention that some of the toothpastes contain fluoride that isn't really fluoride but fluorosilicic acid, which is a toxic waste product that is molecularly similar to fluoride but has a much different effect on the human body -- a toxic effect. When you wash your hands with antibacterial soap that contains triclosan, you are getting the fumes emitted from this chemical reaction.

What is xylitol?

Pure xylitol is a white crystalline substance that looks and tastes like sugar. Studies using xylitol as either a sugar substitute or a small dietary addition have demonstrated a dramatic reduction in new tooth decay, along with arrest and even some reversal of existing dental caries. Xylitol provides additional protection that enhances all existing prevention methods. This xylitol effect is long-lasting and possibly permanent. Low decay rates persist even years after the trials have been completed.

Xylitol is right here, inside, already. Our bodies produce up to 15 grams of xylitol from other food sources using established energy pathways. Xylitol is not a strange or artificial substance, but a normal part of everyday metabolism. Xylitol is widely distributed throughout nature in small amounts. Some of the best sources are fruits, berries, mushrooms lettuce, hardwoods, and corn cobs. One cup of raspberries contains less than one gram of xylitol. Chewing is a natural process and chewing gums provide some exercise lacking in a refined diet. If chewing is uncomfortable, xylitol mints or candies can also stimulate saliva, the natural tooth protector.
